How To Start Planning Your Utah Wedding

You’re Engaged!

Before you dive into the logistics of wedding planning, be sure to take a moment to bask in the joy and excitement with one another. Planning your wedding is such a fun and exciting time for you as a couple, but it can also feel overwhelming as you wonder where to start, have so many people offering advice, and experience feelings of pressure and expectations. What you are feeling is completely normal. We’ll help you get off to a great start by outlining below the first 3 things to do when beginning to plan your Utah wedding.

First…

Determine your wedding budget

We know, we know! This isn’t very romantic, and certainly not what you always imagined as you’ve dreamed of someday planning your wedding. But we can not emphasize enough how important it is to have a solid understanding of your financial resources.

Your budget will dictate so many factors of your celebration, including the number of guests, location, time of year, day of week and much more. To learn more about budgeting for your wedding visit our blog

Second…

Choose your wedding date

Actually, we would suggest that you select 2-3 possible dates that would work for you. Having a little flexibility will work to your advantage in securing a venue and vendors to assist with your big day.

When getting married in Utah, the time of year you choose can definitely influence your celebration’s look, feel, guest experience, and cost. Northern Utah offers four very distinct seasons. So whether you imagine a summer garden wedding, a fall barn wedding, a beautiful winter mountain resort wedding in Park City, or a spring wedding at one of the many traditional venues available here in Utah, you’re sure to be able to create your perfect dream day.

Third…

Select a venue

Now that you’ve narrowed down your wedding date, it’s time to consider your venue. Utah has so many venue options to choose from. Sometimes it can feel like a lot of competition for certain venues and dates. Be careful not to feel pressured into making a hasty decision on your venue selection. This is when having a little flexibility with your date will come in handy. A common mistake couples make is allocating too large of a percentage of their total budget to their venue. As a general rule, you’ll want to keep your venue cost at or below 20% of your total budget for facility rental only, and no more than 35% for venues that include food and drink. If your dream venue is outside of your budget you’ll need to determine if it’s worth sacrificing other elements of your day to host it at that particular venue. As wedding planners, this is a scenario where we are really able to help our clients. With a vast knowledge of venue’s at varying price points, we may be able to refer you to another one that you’ll love. We are in the business of thinking outside the box, and coming up with ideas you may not even have considered. Contrary to what some of our clients have told us, we actually can’t work magic. However, there are many ways we can help you find solutions to various obstacles you may encounter in your planning journey.
